Why IMMAGE Needs Governance

IMMAGE is a multi-million pound 3-part drilling and research project, expected to last 10+ years, and involve many international partners from academia and industry. Due to its scale and complexity, a governance approach is vital to IMMAGE's success.

Governance Objectives

The objectives of our governance policy are as follows:

  • Supporting research that addresses the original scientific objectives of the IMMAGE proposal and other research questions initially by those involved in the drilling expeditions and later by the wider community.

  • Encouraging scientific analyses over a wide range of research disciplines by providing samples to the scientific party involved in any aspect of IMMAGE drilling and the wider scientific community.

  • Encouraging the development of grant proposals for IMMAGE, to support drilling, research and outreach,

  • Supporting research activities that maximise collaboration between researchers and minimise repetition and conflicts of interest.

  • Ensuring availability of samples and data to Science Party members so they can fulfil IMMAGE’s scientific objectives, whilst ensuring samples are shared wherever possible and remaining core materials are returned to the repository.

  • Preserving core material as an archive for future description and observations, non-destructive analyses, and sampling.

  • Maximising dissemination of the scientific findings of this Land-2-Sea drilling project to gain maximum scientific and public exposure.
