IODP Expedition 401 Post-Cruise Meeting
In April 2026, researchers from across Europe and beyond met in Granada for the IODP Expedition 401 post-cruise meeting. Scientists shared post-cruise research results, providing new insights on how the Atlantic and Mediterranean exchanged water during the Messinian Salinity Crisis. The meeting combined talks, posters, collaborative working groups, and field trips to observe late Miocene and early Pliocene deposits comparable to those recovered during Expedition 401. During the meeting, connections across the IMMAGE partnership were strengthened and future research projects identified to meet the scientific objectives of Expedition 401. Thank you to everyone who contributed to an inspiring few days of discussions and ideas, particularly the organising committee: Francisco Javier: Hernández-Molina (IACT-CSIC), Sierro Sánchez (Univ. Salamanca), Rodríguez Tovar (Univ. Granada).
